Moxibustion- Purulence, Dysmenorrhea and Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS)

When I was a teenager, water accidentally entered my ears while I was diving in a hot summer. Pus started to discharge from my ears in a few days. My grandfather put moxa into a small bamboo pipe, lit it, and blew the fume into my ears. The effusion subsided, scab formed, and the condition healed within only 3 treatments.

For the neighborhood girl with dysmenorrhea, my grandpa tirelessly boiled wormwood in water, used the water for her foot bath, and supplemented with massage on Baliao, Shenque, Uterus, and Sanyinjiao acupoints. This simple method created immediate effect.

After becoming a TCM doctor myself, once I came across a patient with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), but it was treated as common traumatic injury at the beginning. This disease is known as “nonlethal cancer“, and is extremely difficult to treat.

He had a treatment history of orthopedics in several famous hospitals, and had various exams, such as X-ray and blood tests, yet nothing came positive. During this time he took a lot of western medicines but to no avail.

He suffered from irregular pain, which aggravated during weather changes. When the pain became unbearable, he would go to hospital and take injection of painkiller and antibiotics. The pain lasted for more than adecade.

His doctors said: “This disease is very difficult to cure, and the only option is to keep on treating and taking medications.

So he took western medicines for 3 years, where he went to orthopedics for examination every month; he also recieved other treatments like plasters. But the pain could only be temporarily relieved.

He came to me to give it another shot.I checked his pulse, which thin and no good, neither was his mental state. He was skinny with poor appetite and sleep; his neck was stiff and back painful; he could not move well, and very painful when doing so.

He had a swollen tongue with white and greasy coating, and teeth marks on the edges.

I made a TCM prescription (2 doses for 1 course of treatment), and combined with other treatment including:

  1. Moxibustion– not only on the pain points, but also acupoints such as Dazhui, Shenzhu, Lingtai, Zhiyang, Mingmen, Yaoyangguan, Huantiao, etc.
  2. Cupping
  3. Bloodletting
Moxibustion

Within 2 months, his pain started to relieve, he felt good in 6 months. Now he is almost healed, and needs only a few more times for consolidation of curative effect.
